National Licensing Examination (NLE)
Pakistan Medical Commission has introduced a written test, NLE, for MBBS graduates to gain a professional license. The NILE is compulsory for all students who have completed their MBBS degree from Pakistani medical colleges. Before this, this test was compulsory only for international students. At the same time, national medical students started their house jobs after the MBBS degree.
But now, PMC made NLE exams compulsory for all national and international medical students from the 2020 session. Thus, they have to clear the exams before doing house jobs. PMC conducted this test twice a year, and failed candidates can attempt the exam as many times as they want.
NLE 2021 Schedule
This year, the PMC has announced the NLE 2021 schedule. Thus, MBBS graduates can apply for the NLE 2021 till 05 July 2021 through the PMC website. However, the Pakistan Medical Commission will conduct the exams between 20-27 August 2021. However, there will be two exams per day.
Eligibility Criteria For NLE
Candidates fulfilling the following eligibility criteria can apply for the PMC NLE test.
- Candidates having MBBS degree from Pakistani Medical colleges recognized by PMC
- Candidates having MBBS degree from the foreign Medical colleges recognized by PMC
Validity and Passing Criteria of NLE
Eligible candidates have to pass both parts of the NLE that are theory and CSE. Candidates have to pass both parts with 70% in each. However, there are three mandatory stations under the CSE part, and applicants have to pass all. However, there is no negative marking in the NLE.
The theory part of the NLE will be valid for the next 05 years. Thus, candidates have to pass the CSE within 05 years otherwise he/she has to appear in the complete NLE test again. However, if candidates fail consecutively in the CSE part, they have to appear in both theory and CSE.

NLE Exams 2021 Structure
- The NLE theory part consists of the 200 MCQs. Out of which 70& MCQs will be from clinical sciences disciplines and 30% from basic sciences disciplines.
- NLE will be a computer-based test, and those candidates who will pass the theory could appear in the CSE part of NLE.
- CSE will be a practical-based test, and candidates have to pass it.
