The University of Karachi introduced the BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics program in their disciplines. The purpose of adding this course is to cater to the problems of food security, poverty, unhealthy food, and hunger that arise due to the Covid-19 and flood situation. By adding this course, they will be able to control the number of diabetic patients, heart diseases, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diets, and lifestyles in the country. However, the Department of Food Science and Technology opened admission for it.

Another objective of this course is to develop awareness about foods related to human health that can be consumed as medicine and protect against diseases. Syed Muhammad Ghufran Saeed, Assistant Professor of the Food Science Department of the University of Karachi, said that this new nutrition course was introduced after observing the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and recent flooding on humans. This course is relevant to the medical field. So, all those applicants who belong to Karachi will now definitely enroll in this course if they are interested in becoming a dietitian.
