On 08 October 2020, NUTS issued a notification regarding gaining the High Tech Special Economic Zone status. This is one of the most outstanding achievements of the NUST. Prime Minister Imran Khan approved this status of SEZ for NUST in the 6th meeting of the Board of approvals. After this status, NUST has become a member of 20 SEZs in the country. All other SEZs are industrial zones, NUST in only one Higher Education Institute to gain this status.
On this outstanding achievement, LT General Naweed Rehman (Retd), Rector NUST thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said that now the university will work harder in Science, Technology, and Innovation for the progress of the country. He also said that SEZs suggest various economic ideas related to the latest research and innovations in the world. He stated that in order to deliver the tax and import stimulants some economic substructure such as the High Tech Zone, free Trade zones have developed.
Rector NUST, Naweed Zaman, also stated the conversion of their pilot National Science & Technology Park (NSTP). He said that we would convert the NSTP into a full-fledged STP that will have a capacity to host around 250 partners.
Now after this achievement, NUST decided to launch the full-scale multi tower-based NSTP soon to invite the interest from their partners.
