Recently, the Supreme Court allowed the DAE degree holders to take admission in the engineering programs on Open merit basis. Before this, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has fixed only 2% quotas for the DAE degree holders to get admission in BSc engineering programs. On the other hand, FSc students can apply for admission on open merit.
Thus, a three-Judge panel led by Justice Umer Ata Bandial took this matter under consideration and ruled out the PEC 2% quota law for the DAE candidates. One of the Judges stated that the best way to create a competition among the students is to allow all students to take admission on open merit. By doing this, the best students among the Fsc and DAE degree quill be able to get admission after the great competition.
Thus, the BSc engineering admission eligibility for the FSc and DAE degree holders will be the same. Thus, all candidates will have equal chances and opportunities for further admissions without discrimination.
The SC also stated that the PEC decision about 2% quota for DAE taken on 25 March 2015 showed the discrimination. At the same time, PEC has no right to reserve seats for any program so, that was an illegal step of the PEC.
