Recently, the FDE Joint Action Committee has conducted a meeting where the members decided to postpone the mid-term exams. The committee announced to postpone all mid-terms exams in federal public schools and colleges. According to the statements, the institute will reschedule the exams after the government fulfills its demands.
The Federal Directorate Education (FDE) employees demanded to withdraw clause 166 of the ICT Local Government Ordinance. For this, teachers struck for a week, but govt didn’t respond. After that, the FDE Joint committee decided to pause the academic schedule till the government accepted their demands.
Last month, the federal government placed 424 FDE institutes under the Municipal Corporation Islamabad through an ordinance. However, after consulting with mayor Islamabad, the government appointed the FDE Director-general under the ordinance.
These are the things that DFE employees didn’t like, and they started protesting against them. At the same time, teachers also have a fear that the new ordinance might change the employees’ status. However, this step of government might lead to the privatization of institutes.
