According to the latest news, it is to notify all that HEC will close the illegal campuses of private universities all over Pakistan. The Supreme Court of Pakistan approved this decision and ordered HEC to shut down all illegal institutes. A few months ago, one of the students complained that HEC is not issuing and verifying their degrees. He urges many times, but HEC hasn’t taken it seriously. However, he also claimed that other universities named Preston University and Al-Khair University had illegally established sub-campuses in Karachi and Lahore. When this news reached the Supreme Court, they started investigating it and identified that two campuses were running illegally.
On the other hand, Justice Umar Ata Bandial also asked HEC to provide reasons for not verifying degrees of the sub-campuses students of various universities. HEC’s lawyer said that private universities not allowed to establish sub-campuses outside their territorial limits, which why these two sub-campuses identified as illegal.
Because of the illegal campus, the lawyer of the aggrieved students requested the bench to order the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take action against private universities for depriving students of millions of rupees by setting up illegal campuses.
