The Tribal Affair Ministry of Union government announced the fellowship under the scheme of “National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students. Applicants who are interested as well as eligible can apply by following the general terms and conditions. The candidate can apply for a fellowship if he/she has successfully completed the post-graduation. The purpose of offering a fellowship is to encourage the ST students to acquire higher education in the form of a fellowship to pursue M.Phil and Ph.D. courses. The total number of slots in the fellowship is 750/ However, the offering National scholarship is to encourage ST students to obtain postgraduate degrees from prestigious institutes in professional fields such as Management, Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology, Law etc.

National Fellowship
- The National Fellowship cover all Universities /Institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC)
- The Fellowship will be on the pattern of UGC/ICAR Fellowships awarded to research students and it will cater to the requirements of the Scheduled Tribe students pursuing research studies leading to regular and full-time M.Phil, the Ph.D. course only and an equivalent research degree in Universities, Research Institutions and Scientific Institutions.
National Scholarship
- The National Scholarship cover various courses and institutions under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs
- The ST students who got admission to these institutions are awarded scholarships.
- Once the scholarship is awarded it will continue till the completion of the course
Eligibility Criteria for NFST Fellowships
- The candidate having post-graduate degree holder can apply for NFST Fellowship
- Universities/ Institutes/ Colleges funded by Central/ State Government
- Institute of National Importance
- The duration of this NFST fellowship program is 2 years (D Exclusively: 5 years)
- Enrollment of Ph.D. after completion of M.Phil: 2 years (M.Phil) & 3 years (Ph.D.)

Eligibility Criteria for NFST Scholarship:-
- The candidate having bachelor degree holder can apply for NFST scholarship
- The scholarship shall be payable once the student has secured admission and started attending the classes.
- The student will be eligible to join only the list of institutions identified by the Ministry.
