The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has announced to set the universities free about the decision of setting the maximum number of attempts by the students to pass their theoretical studies of MBBS and BDS.
Earlier every student had availed or un-availed four chances to clear the theoretical exams of first 2 years of MBBS and 1 year of BDS, called basics. But now, according to the PMC Ordinance 2019, the universities are allowed to decide the maximum number of attempts for the students.
The decision is made because of the violation of medical colleges about the maximum number of students of MBBS and BDS. Because the universities were having more students than the available students. If there were 100 seats available, the university was having 120 students stating that extra students were repeating. Now the universities will decide the number of attempts students can have and the repeating students will be counted under the same number of seats available.

Dr. Taqi said that PMC has nothing to do with the number of attempts by the student and universities are allowed to set on their own and that PMC will not interfere in this matter anymore.
The notification was sent to the medical universities by letter stating that the universities can decide how many chances should be given to the students to pass their basic years. Also, the universities are bound to retain a minimum number of faculty.
Also, the students would be able to get an education sitting at homes like distant-learning. The PMC sent all these notifications.
