The government of Sindh issued a notification regarding the announcement of a Public holiday. According to the details, it is to inform all that Sindh announced a public holiday on 1st September 2023. This holiday is due to the 280th Urs of saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. Thus, all offices, educational institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils falling under the Sindh government will remain closed. They also issued a notification in this regard. The urs take place every year on the 14th Safar (the second month of the Hijra calendar) and lasts for three days.
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was a great Sufi poet and saint. He is considered to be the greatest poet of the Sindhi language. His collected poems were compiled in “Shah Jo Risalo”, which exists in numerous versions and has been translated into English, Urdu, and several other languages. This issued notification applies to all Sindh private and government-related bodies.
