According to the news, the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) disagreed with the newly announced Ph.D. policy. They requested HEC to change this policy and make MS/M.phil mandatory for getting admission in Ph.D. It is unilateral policy to jump directly into a Ph.D. after completing 16 years of education. Apart from this, HEC works in phasing out the MPhil programs. Moreover, they also announced a 6-semester MS program in vogue in the US and European universities to bring our system to par with the First World. Also, enable our Ph.D. candidates to apply in the US, Canada, etc., without undertaking their graduate programs first.
Dr. Hasan Mahmood, President, Academic Staff Association, Quaid-i-Azam University, said, “The latest recommendation allows the direct admission of BS graduates into Ph.D. admissions in all the disciplines in Pakistani universities.” Eliminating MS/M.Phil degree in the education system will be a significant loss as it declines the importance of research productivity. However, FAPUASA urged HEC to kick off this new policy.
