HEC Alert about Unauthorized two-years Degree Programs
On 17 January 2021, HEC published a warning notification for the students not to get enrolled in two-year degree programs. HEC announced this after the statement of some universities. Now, in the notification, HEC clearly stated that the commission has phased out the 02-year degree programs. So, don’t waste your money by enrolling in these programs.
However, the banned 02-year degree programs are the following.
- BA/BSc
- MA/MSc
Other than that, HEC also stated the commission took the decision to phase out these degrees in 2004. However, HEC gave permission to the universities to continue the admission for the transition period. Thus, in 2016 HEC concluded the transition period and announced plans to stop the BA/BSC programs on 31 December 2020. Now, the universities will announce the admissions for single, Composite, and 04-year degrees.

Associate Degrees
In the alternative of BA/BSc, HEC introduced Associate Degrees (AD) that are equivalent to the 14 years of education. After that, students will be able to get enrolled in the 5th Semester BS degree.

Some Flexibilities from HEC
HEC gave some relaxations to the universities regarding the two-year degree programs due to COVID-19.
- The commission provided the duration of 03 months to the universities to conclude the BA/BSc exam. So, institutes have to finish the final exams till 31 March 2021.
- HEC also extended the admissions in MA/MSc for the final cohort till 31 March 2021. However, the final cohort of BA/BSc can also apply.
- BA/BSc degree holders can apply for the 5th semester of BS programs.
