After a day-long protest, the Higher Education Commission HEC accepted students’ demands and ordered universities to conduct exams online. On Wednesday, HEC, after reviewing the current protesting situation, issued the notification. However, the Education Minister tweeted, “happy to note that HEC has formally allowed the universities to conduct online exams with adequate safeguards”. After HEC notification, Shafqat Mehmood ordered universities to quickly take the right procedures to hold online exams, adding that they must keep up with education standards
Before the UCP protest, many students of GCWUF also protested regarding the online mode of exams. Students protesting in UCP got injured and hospitalized. Not only this, multiple injuries reported in various educational institutes of the city after the Punjab Police allegedly baton-charged. On 25th January 2021. Shafqat Mehmood also decided and informed HEC to think about the conduction of online exams. After a massive protest by students in different cities, HEC forced to make this decision.
