Recently, Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) submitted a petition against the HEC notification and stated it was illegal according to law. Barrister Raheel writes a petition on behalf of PEC and demands to declare the HEC notification null and void.
HEC issued a notification where the commission stated that BSC Engineering and B-Tech degrees are equivalent. Thus, on this notice of HEC, PEC went against the HEC. PEC stated that the PEC had resolved the BSc Engineering and B-Tech equivalence matter a few years ago. But bow, HEC violates the law by declaring these two different degrees equivalent.
The petition also said that the HEC notice caused a lot of confusion in the Engineering sectors and the stakeholders. PEC further clarified that Engineering and technology are two different branches of the engineering profession, so they can’t be equivalent. But because of the HEC notification, many government institutes have started to hire B-tech degree holders for engineering posts.
Regarding the hiring process, PEC stated that if B-technologists start doing work in the engineering post, then where will engineers go.
