On January 27, 2021, National Command and Operation center conducted a meeting regarding schools and universities reopening. NCOC, after reviewing the current COVID-19 situation, decided to start on-campus classes of primary and universities from February 01. However, some of the main cities, including Lahore, Peshawar, Hyderabad, and Karachi, would only allow students to attend the classes on alternate days with 50%. The meeting was chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and special initiative Asad Umar along with the coordinator of NCOC. Not only this, the education minister and health official also become a part of this meeting.
Opening a school does not mean that the virus is gone. Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood strictly took action against those who didn’t follow the SOPs. It is mandatory for students to follow the preventative measures. Earlier, classes of Grade 9 to 12 have already attended the classes from January 18. Now, NCOC decided to reopen other rest school classes and universities as per schedule.
