On Thursday, the Punjab government started a new program named School Milk programs to provide milk to school students. The Punjab government conducted a ceremony at the University of Lahore (UoL) to announce this decision. The ceremony was attended by many senior representatives, including Provincial Minister for Livestock Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak and Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun.
The purpose of offering milk in schools is to increase the rate of malnutrition among Pakistani students. As the malnutrition rate is low in our Pakistani school going students. Therefore, the Punjab government launched these milk programs in schools. However, they divided this program into two phases. In the first phase, they give milk to the thousands of students in more than 90 schools in Attock and Sheikhupura, whose worth is Rs 8.5 million for the next six months. As per details, the Provincial Minister for Livestock stated that firstly the milk was provided in the 89 primary schools in Sheikhupura and then in Attock after six months.
In the second phase, they expanded this program in the 34 districts. After successfully serving the milk in all schools, they launch this program in colleges. A large number of students are underweight and suffer from malnutrition. Therefore we begin this program to overcome this problem.
