HEC proposed admission policy for the Ph.D. a few days ago, but the teaching staff was not satisfied with this new policy, and they rejected it.
In a press conference on 11 June, president of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Dr. Sohail Yousaf said that we reject the new admission policy. He said that HEC made some drastic changes without taking HEI’s and academia on-board.
The new policy suggested that students can take admission to the Ph.D. after 16 years of the degree (B.S or equivalent). And the minimum duration of the Ph.D. will last three years and a maximum of 8 years.
Dr. Sohail Yousaf said that it would severely affect the postgraduate universities of Pakistan, and universities will also face a significant loss because of the M.Phil degree’s termination. He also said that by obeying the new policy, research productivity would also decline as, in M.Phil, students are prepared and gain knowledge of the research requirements and necessities.
He also said that Pakistani B.S degree is not internationally recognized, and no student is funded for the foreign university research programs. He said that if M.Phil degree undermined, then the number of Pakistani students will dramatically decrease in international universities which lead Pakistan at least ten years back from today.
FAPUASA announced that we resist the new admission policy, and if the new policy does not demolish immediately, then we launch a countrywide protest against the HEC administration.
