Just like Virtual University, one of the well-known government sector universities named Government College University GCU is also to introduce a zero semester policy. However, they not only adopt this policy but also conduct non-credit mandatory courses/ training for students, who require extra attention. As per details, GCU Academic Council passed this policy. However, the admission committees and students’ academic advisers will identify courses for students according to their HSSC marks. This zero semester specially introduced for students who got a 40% mark in their annual HSSC examination. In a recent meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi said
“This initiative is part of the recent drive to improve the quality of education at the GCU. The majority of universities offer top-ranked universities offer zero-semester and non-credit courses to equip students with skills necessary to be highly competitive in the job market,” he added. Due to limited financial resources, Pakistan universities are also going to adopt this policy. Hence, the GCU Vice-Chancellor also promised that for this semester we will not charge any single fee.
